Orbs In The Attic

Old Georgia Vic and Spooks

Attics, wasps and hiding spiders abound in an old attic we explored today. Add a ghost hunter who is in search of a haunted pad and voila, you have one hell of an interesting scenario. Before I entice you with words dripping with nostalgia, let me share one small tip. This tip is to first experience the surroundings with your eyes before attempting to film any location.

In the movie business, this is called 'scouting out a location'. Then after you are familiar with the surroundings, you may let the camera roll. But like most of us 'eager to get up into creepy attic people', we sometimes fail. I know I did. This little tip is especially important if an attic is your proposed stomping ground. It is also the reason my footage may appear as though the Blair Witch could be hanging from the rafters in some dark corner. LOL

I do believe this will be the third time we've visited this beautiful old house. And with each visit, my heart aches to call it home. With the surrounding lack of businesses from a deprived economy, the town may not be the greatest town in the nation for career minded folk. But sometimes sacrifices must be made to land the home of your dreams. This is one of those times. Travel would be a necessity since this area sits in between two relatively large Georgia towns. As I mentioned in a previous post, I would probably be inclined to purchase this house even if it sat in the depths of hell. Well, maybe not hell. But you get the picture. In the last two

videos, I showed you the exterior as well as the wrap around porch. During our second visit, we ventured inside to witness several beautiful old coal burning fireplaces, hardwood floors which spoke a language of their own; usually, snap crackle and a few pops here and there. To my ears, such old house sounds are like a symphony echoing days gone past. Today, we ventured into a part of the home the home most with an active imagination would find the most interesting - the attic.

It is this space which all good and bad things seem to happen in the human psyche. Murder, mystery and ghosts are known to reside in the tucked away spaces of a home. Originally, the word attic was used to describe one of the most beautiful Greek Architectural styles. The English borrowed it. As you know, attic is a word used to describe the space just below the roof. Attics hold a mystique that cannot be surpassed. It is this hidden space where I believe creativity and imagination are born.

Here, you can see a shot of the front of the house. Now ask yourself, "What is the most interesting part of the structure?" What draws your eyes? Is it the wrap around porch, the finely crafted tin roof? Maybe it is the porte-cochere - or carriage porch on the right-hand side. Did I forget something? What about that tower thingy?  The Turret windows and half-moon shaped windows on the top floor were the main elements that enchanted me. And from the looks of things, this house could easily be three stories high. Again, we are talking about a building that is nearing 100 years old. It was built during a time when builders rarely used faux as their main architectural hors d'oeuvre. So, it would stand to reason there was in fact space up there. The question was, how much. Today, we found out the answer to our question. And boy were we ecstatically surprised.

Now, take a look at a typical attic in the image to the right. Notice the cross beams which provide very little space for anyone with bad knees or fails to possess a penchant for climbing trees. Yes, that's me. I like nice solid floors to walk on. However, this style of attic does not provide the luxury of walking on a flat surface at all. Instead, you are forced to climb your way from one end to the other while balancing on two by fours; God help you if you get into a tight space and a spider falls in your lap. And if you attempt this in the summer time, may the power of heaven and earth be with you. Depending upon where you live, attic temperatures have been known to be around 180 degrees. At least 180 degrees is the maximum acceptable temperature of an enclosed attic space near the sheathing. If you attempted to breathe air in this temperature range, it would feel as though you were breathing pure ammonia. The heat would come close to burning your nostrils. I know this to be true after helping my uncle hang a ceiling fan. Holy Cannoli, it was hot.

Today, we were hoping to find the house of our dreams did not have such an attic. We were hoping to find extra space for a possible third floor. Guess what? We found it. The space provided by the builders of this amazing house carved out an impressive extra 1645 square feet of attic space, unused and sitting alone in semi-darkness. Once finished, the extra attic space would change the original figures

from 3400 square feet to a whopping 5,045 heated square feet of living space. This is a big jump from a 1300 square ft apartment, don't you think? Again, location and price are separate creatures. But I feel warm and fuzzy inside when at least the price is right. No pun intended Mr. Barker.

If an old Victorian attique doesn't impress you, maybe the turret roof will. Here is an image of the skeleton frames which make up what I think to be the most impressive aspect of the front of the house. This style is none other than quintessential Queen Ann style. She's a beauty for sure. But what about the ghosts? Did we capture any strange stuff up in the attic - any haunted dolls banished to live their remaining immortal lives in a sea of cobwebs and darkness? I wouldn't go that far. But we did capture a few things only a ghost enthusiast could appreciate.

Now for a little literary interlude, or oasis in the desert of characters before your face. Was it not the bible which first presented one of the most famous quotes of all? The quote I am referring too is 'Seek and you shall find'. Was I

seeking ghosts? "Well, maybe a little" so sayeth the writer of this passage. I mean, after capturing this image, my curiosity became inflamed.  I begged to borrow an expandable ladder and traveled over 2 hours to investigate the only space that remained untouched by my inquisitive eyes - the attic.

The next image (lower-right) was taken at night.  If you notice, there happens to be an apparition in the second floor doorway. She/he/it appears to be peering out from this second-story doorway which leads out onto the porch roof. My initial theory was that of a child who fell to their death and continued to haunt the bedroom. This is no more than a theory of mine. Further investigative measures may produce interesting results. In the meantime, raw unexplained footage is all we have to keep our imaginations sated. Now before I give a long drawn out boring explanation of what is in the video below, let me simply let your eyes feast upon what I think is a ghostly orb rising out of the chimney and disappearing up toward the ceiling. (Even though we did see a few wasps by the windows, note the temperature was in the lower 50's. So, no wasps would be flying about in those temperatures.) So what is it?

Orbs In Attic

Of course, a finished attic would be exceptional. But at what cost? Well, if you beg your uncle who happens to be a master carpenter to clue you in on a few shortcuts, we might be able to pull it off with minimal costs. Then again, we have to buy the house first don't we? Hope you enjoyed this story and again, we love hearing from people out there with stories of their own. Oh, almost forgot to mention the most important part. The orb/object that appears to materialize from the chimney is coming from a very interesting spot. The chimney actually runs from the room where the apparition appears to be in the night photograph. Isn't that interesting?
